Tattoo Aftercare in the Tropics: The First Two Weeks

You got the tattoo — now the real work starts. A simple day-by-day guide to healing clean and bright under the Bali sun.

Tattoo Aftercare in the Tropics: The First Two Weeks

The session is over, the piece looks incredible, and now it is in your hands. Most tattoo problems do not happen in the studio — they happen in the two weeks after, usually involving the sea, the sun, or good intentions and bad soap. Here is the routine we give every Lucky Street client.

Days 1–3: keep it clean and calm

Wash gently twice a day with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Pat dry with a clean towel — never rub. Apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment; if it looks shiny and wet, you used too much. Some redness and warmth is normal.

Days 4–10: the itchy chapter

The tattoo will flake like a sunburn and itch like one too. Do not scratch, do not pick, and do not 'help' the flakes off. Keep moisturising thinly, wear loose clothing over the area, and let showers be quick and lukewarm. This is also when the tattoo can look dull or cloudy — that is new skin forming, not fading.

The two big island rules

No swimming, surfing, or soaking until the skin has fully closed — for most people that is a full two weeks. And no direct sun on the fresh piece; once healed, sunscreen becomes your tattoo's best friend for life.

Anything worrying you — unusual swelling, heat, or pain that grows instead of fading? Message us or drop by the studio. Checking is free, and five minutes of advice beats two weeks of guessing.
